Breakfast and Brunch in Austria - an overview
 Frühstück
Austrians very often eat a light breakfast very early in the mornings and then will have a more substantial breakfast a little later called Gabelfrühstück (fork breakfast) often at one of the many famous coffee houses with such delights as linzer torte and dazzling pastries.
Traditional breakfast fare can include a variety of wonderful crispy bread rolls like Semmeln, Salzstangerln, Kipferln and Weckerln to accompany smoked cheese, boiled eggs and cold meats like liverwurst and other sausages. Pancakes with apple syrup feature quite often in breakfast cafes as of course do tea, coffee and a myriad of fruit juices. Popular breakfasts eaten on the hoof are warm pastries filled with cheese and ham or bacon.
